Reaching the Nations Within Our Borders

According to the Pew Research Center, the United States, with more than 40 million immigrants, is the top destination in the world for those moving from one country to another.* Truly, the world has come to us.

In response to this, The Navigators launched a new ministry called Nations Within. It focuses on people living in the United States who have a primary cultural or national identity that’s distinct from the majority culture. They might be Ethiopians in Denver, Chinese in Austin, or groups of people who find their identity in “Eastern” religions.

People from other nations and social groups are all around us. How can we take advantage of this opportunity? It’s pretty simple: walk with Christ, love people, learn their culture, and make friends. We need to pray for people and learn to love them for who they are. That requires a step of faith. It requires us to venture into their world, recognizing that everybody wants a friend. It means learning to truly listen.

In Revelation 7:9 the apostle John saw heaven and recognized people from every tribe, tongue, and nation. All those cultures and distinctions are represented in God’s Kingdom—and they are a reflection of the fullness of God’s creativity.

Please pray for us as we reach out to other cultures within our borders. Begin to build your own cross-cultural friendships with the nations who live next door. What an exciting opportunity to participate in God’s passion for the redemption of all people!
