If The Navigators Discipling for Development Mission had its own Mount Rushmore, the faces of these four African international mentors would be on it. They have developed individuals and communities in their own countries and around Africa for decades. But it’s not just their past that makes them special. These godly people are the foundations of many generations of disciples—disciples God can use to bring whole-life transformation to Africa.
Margaret Ngaira (bottom of photo), who has served this vision for more than 25 years, recently shared about her ministry among the Digo people of Kenya’s southern coast. The vast majority of the Digo are Muslims, who have been resistant to the Gospel for a century. But three years ago, Margaret began mentoring a new team of local believers there that exudes a passion to reach their own people with the Gospel. As Margaret has helped the team disciple their churches, they have seen six Digo people come to faith in Christ.
Margaret and other international mentors are working to raise up the next generation of mentors—those in their 20s and 30s—who will train and coach alongside them. The goal is to equip these “younger versions of Margaret” to cross cultures and bring the Good News to people who have not yet experienced the Gospel in action.
This commitment to reach future generations reminds us of the words God spoke to Isaiah (Isaiah 43:4): ” Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.”
