The Lordship of Christ

One of the most important truths in the Bible is the Lordship of Jesus Christ. What would it look like if God, in the person of Jesus Christ, was in the center? How would HE affect your daily life?

What’s in the center of your life?

Imagine life like a pie, with various segments of our lives. A basic question to ask Is what’s in the center? As an example, imagine any of the segments being in the center. If sports was in the center, or dating/marriage, or money, or career, how would each of those affect your daily life? What would it look like if God, in the person of Jesus Christ, was in the center? How would HE affect your daily life?

One of the most important truths in the Bible is the Lordship of Jesus Christ. While Jesus is referred to as “Savior” 24 times, He is referred to as “Lord” over 700 times!

Consider the following passages:

  • “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” Matthew 6:33 (NIV).
  • “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Luke 6:46 (NIV).
  • “You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all” Acts 10:36 (NIV).
  • “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” Romans 10:9 (NIV).
  • “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living” Romans 14:8-9 (NIV).
  • “Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, ‘Jesus be cursed,’ and no one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit” 1 Corinthians 12:3 (NIV).
  • “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (NIV).
  • “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy” Colossians 1:17-18 (NIV).
  • “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen” 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV).

Application:

  1. Is it your desire to have Jesus to be Lord of your daily life? What would that look like?
  2. Are there issues of your life that you need to surrender to the Lordship of Jesus?
  3. As you consider your future, how can you seek first Christ and his kingdom and his righteousness?
  4. Is there someone you could disciple to help them grow in the Lordship of Christ?
