Posturing your heart to serve like Jesus is best motivated by a deep, personal relationship with Him. As we model our lives after Christ’s posture of servanthood, we may notice true heart-change in the people around us.
Invite someone you’re discipling to unpack these Scripture passages with you and discover how Christ’s example of servanthood can be lived out together in your community.
Serve Like Jesus: Know the True Servant
Read Mark 10:45.
- What was Christ’s purpose in coming to this world?
Read John 13:1-7.
- How did Jesus serve the disciples?
- Why was Jesus able to give so freely of Himself (see John 13:3)?
- List several lessons that stand out to you from Christ’s example in this passage.
- Who in your community could you serve to offer a powerful reminder of their deep value and dignity? Discuss this with another disciplemaker.
Serve Like Jesus: Follow the Way of Jesus
Read Philippians 2:5-8.
- What would it look like to have the mindset of Christ in your relationships?
Read John 12:26.
- Serving Jesus means following Him to the places He goes. In your community, where do you believe Jesus is calling you?
- As you consider where Jesus is calling you, who might you invite to serve there together? Discuss this with another disciplemaker.
Serve Like Jesus: Walk Together as Servants
Read Romans 12:9-13.
- These commands in the original Greek are in the plural (i.e. “you all”). What would it look like to invite someone to follow these commands together?
Read 1 Corinthians 11:1, Philippians 3:17, and Philippians 4:9.
- What do you gather from these passages about the importance of imitating one another as we imitate Jesus?
Make final preparations for next steps to serve like Jesus alongside another disciplemaker. Use this space to make any notes about who, when, where, and how you will walk together as servants to those around you.

I’ve recently had a heart attack and in my recovery, I haven’t been actively discipling. This reminds me that I need to get back on track with discipling.
