Strategic Prayer Lead Vic Black has served in ministry with The Navigators for 45 years. Born and raised in North Carolina, Vic became a follower of Jesus at the age of 18 and was introduced to The Navigators the following year. He completed his undergraduate degree in computer science from North Carolina State University in 1977. After working four years in the computer industry, he and his wife, Lindy, joined Navigators Collegiate staff in 1981.
After 21 years of disciplemaking among students at Auburn University, Vic was appointed national prayer director of The U.S. Navigators. Through that role, he partnered and prayed with the national leadership community in every Mission, engaging with them in carrying out their leadership roles through seeking God. He also served the Field Ministries by leading prayer retreats, teaching, and leading developmental workshops that explored biblical prayer.
In 2016, Vic transitioned to be the associate director for Nations Within, which ministers among culturally unassimilated people groups, particularly refugees and immigrants, who want to maintain their cultural identity while living within the United States. Meanwhile, Lindy served on the U.S. Leadership Team for 14 years, first as associate director of Field Missions and then as associate U.S. director. She now serves on the U.S. board of directors.
Beginning in 2024, Vic’s role on the U.S. Leadership Team includes encouraging a ministry-wide emphasis on God-Focused Prayer. One of his greatest pleasures is helping people discover a deeper relationship with Jesus in fresh and creative ways.
Presently on Encore staff, Vic and Lindy look forward to seeing how God continues to use them in this season. Outside of their work with The Navigators, they both love hiking, exploring the Rocky Mountains, playing games, enjoying good food, and spending time with their three adult children, their children’s spouses, and 12 grandchildren.
