Larry Hope

Born to a family of non believers, I became a Christian when I was 36 years old on Wilson Street at Uptown Baptist Church. The gospel was shared with me by a 16 year old girl named Michelle, who lived in North Carolina. She was at the church to do a backyard Bible study. This young lady also introduced me to Uptown Baptist Church, and I’ve been there for 27 years.

As a Navigator, I work with a ministry called “Men of the Round Table,” where Christ is the center, and our focus is to work with men one-on-one and in our group settings where we discuss issues using the Word of God to solve every problem in hopes of helping them to know Christ and make Him known®.

In Uptown about 20,000 people live per square mile. God has called me to minister to men in these streets; men who were struggling with identity, drugs and alcohol. Uptown is the place where I struggled with some of the same issues, but it’s also a place where I was reborn and became free through the love of Christ.

The verse that keeps me grounded is Psalm 143: 10-11, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. For your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.”

Our cities are in peril, and the Gospel of Christ seasoned in love is the only thing that can empower everyday people to live free and labor together for Christ throughout their lifetimes.

Will you consider partnering with me by giving a monthly gift and praying for the people in Uptown?
