About Ben Reichert

God has called me to go to New Zealand because there is a need among young men who struggle with mental health issues, and God has given me a heart of understanding and care for people who struggle with those issues. When I came to college I had anxiety and was unsure of a lot of things in my life, but my God radically changed my heart and became an anchor in my life. Students at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand don’t have that anchor, and as a result, the suicide rate among young men is double what it is in the US.

Most young people in New Zealand do not know Jesus personally, so I will share my faith and read the Bible with them and let God meet them where they are through his living and active Word. As someone who has battled mental health issues in the past, I know that these students need lots of time around people to feel loved, so I will be interruptible in my schedule to make these students feel loved. I am trusting that through this God will impact both of the islands of New Zealand.

One promise God has laid on my heart is Isaiah 58:10-12, which says that if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desires of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday, and the LORD your God will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and make your bones strong;  and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; and you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called repairer of the breach, restorer of streets to dwell in. These verses are incredibly applicable for the people in New Zealand because there is a need there, and I am trusting that God will use my life to meet the needs of the people who are in darkness and are afflicted with mental health issues and bring glory to His name!
