About Luke and Sarah DeBoer
Luke and Sarah have served with The Navigators in a variety of roles: campus ministry in Japan, campus ministry at Iowa State University, ministry to international students, leading the campus ministry at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and most recently providing leadership to iEDGE, a 2-year missions internship sending teams of recent college graduates all over the world. Now they are trusting God for their next assignment. While they don’t yet know the specifics, they are committed to investing deeply to build, train, and develop people to know Christ and make Him known; leading towards generations of disciples who make disciples; and being engaged in Christ’s Great Commission to the nations, whether that be in the nations or mobilizing to the nations.
Luke dreams about individuals, passionate for Jesus Christ, taking the gospel to their friends, families, and around the world. It was as a freshman at Iowa State University that he first understood that there was a difference between knowing about God and knowing God personally. It was then that he surrendered his life to Christ, learning over time what being a disciple of Jesus entailed. Compelled by Jesus’ vision of normal, ordinary people reaching and influencing those around them for the sake of the Gospel, he joined staff with The Navigators upon graduation, initially at Iowa State University, his alma mater.
Sarah trusted her life to Christ at a young age and was invited into a Navigator Bible study as a freshman at the University of Northern Iowa. God significantly used that time to help her build strong, Biblical foundations in her walk with God. Upon graduation, she spent 2 1/2 years with The Navigators in the land of the rising sun, sharing the gospel and her life with Japanese students. Returning to the US, she met Luke while serving on staff together at Iowa State. Today she spends much of her time reading Dr. Seuss and discussing the intricacies of potty training with their four young children.
