Romans 10

Romans 10 …This chapter continues the theme in Romans 9-11 of “God’s Plan of Justification for the Whole World” and has as its focus God’s present purposes for Israel. Chapter 10 has also been called the “Missions Chapter” of Scripture for its call to send missionaries out to the world (Romans 10:14-15).

The chapter is filled with great and well-known memory verses: Romans 10:4 “Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes,” and Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart … you will be saved.” And more great verses to know, Romans 10:13 “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” and then Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”

We might summarize the passage this way: it’s not head knowledge (10:2) that’s important, it’s heart knowledge. It’s not self-righteousness or outward behavior, but an inward relationship that comes from knowing God. This is a rich, rich chapter in the Word of God; perhaps influencing Luther to say (as we quoted earlier) … the book of Romans is worth knowing word for word by every believer.
