Revelation 18 … The “Babylon” of Revelation 17 referred to religious corruption and perhaps the one-world religion demanded by the “false-prophet” of Revelation 13:11-12. The “Babylon” in this chapter is an economic system of unprincipled commerce, and is very likely the one-world economic system devised by the Antichrist and false prophet depicted in Revelation 13. “Demonic” best describes the economic and political system of the end-times (18:2), and God’s people are called to “get out” (v.4), just as Lot was told to get out of Sodom (Genesis 19:12) because of the moral awfulness of the place. That’s the attitude believers ought to have toward unwholesome environments. This terrible one-world system will be swiftly and suddenly ended (v.10 and v.17) with a final and violent destruction, that will end the persistent persecution of the saints who turned to God during the Tribulation times.
