James 5:1-6 … These six verses are all on the same theme and they all condemn an attitude toward money and wealth. As you scan the verses, you see the focus is behavioral; it’s not money that corrupts, it’s the love of money, a point made earlier by the Apostle Paul (1 Timothy 6:10). But also, you see hoarding (5:3) and abuse of workers (5:4), which were likely the means of accumulating more wealth. Moreover, the wealth was not put to any benevolent purpose. James condemns this kind of love of wealth. All of us ought to have some sense of the unmet needs of others and do what we can to charitably assist.
