Ephesians 2:11-22 … The passage before us begins with “Therefore” which is to say, because of the grace of God in salvation, because you have been given the gift of faith in Christ, we who are Gentiles, who were alienated from God (v.12) are now brought near by the sacrifice of Christ who has paid for our sins and redeemed us to Himself (v.13). As a result, there is no more separation in the body of Christ … no Jews on the one hand and Gentiles on the other … we are all one in Christ Jesus who is our access (v.18) in the Holy Spirit to the Father. One in Christ … that’s a great cause for celebration … no longer strangers or aliens, but part of the Family of God, part of the church of which Jesus is the cornerstone (v.20 … recalling Psalm 118:22).
Finally, note Ephesians 2:22 … that just as the Tabernacle was the dwelling place of God in its time, it foreshadowed His current temple which is the body of believers … a truth proclaimed here and in 1 Corinthians 6:19 … “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?”
