2 Peter 3:1-9 … Peter is now coming to the close of his second letter and the intensity of his message is increased. He rests his argument on the written Word of God and directs our attention to the last days, a judgment will most assuredly be coming and it will come by fire and not by flood (2 Peter 3:7). He emphasizes no one should think, because the end is not immediately evident, that the prophecies have failed. No, he says, God’s time is different than our own; ours is temporal, His is eternal. Then in a great and memorable verse (add it to your memory verses), he gives an important reason for God’s patience. He takes no pleasure in judgment but takes great joy in every sinner who repents (2 Peter 3:9 and Luke 15:7).
