2 Peter 2:10-16 … Our reading in 2 Peter begins in mid-sentence (v.10), but it’s a pretty vital mid-sentence: The sentence began way up in 2 Peter 2:4 with God’s discernment in condemning evil and saving the righteous. Among the unrighteous who are to be preserved for judgment are those who “follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority.” The “flesh” is a word that refers to mankind’s sin nature, something we all have and need to keep under control (re- read 2 Peter 1:3-8). The passage as a whole (beginning in 2 Peter 2:1) is addressing unfaithful and false teachers. While that is important in itself and Peter’s condemnation of it is thorough, we who are faithful communicators ought to be warned by the passage. We ought to be constantly on guard and faithfully representing the Word of God.
