1 Timothy 6:11-21

1 Timothy 6:11-21 … This first letter to young Timothy, the pastor of the Church of Jesus Christ in Ephesus, will close with a final charge regarding the ministry and message. It begins by emphasizing the importance of fleeing from the love of money and worldliness, and in that way synchronize our behavior with our beliefs. Verses 12-14 are valuable to any who would minister to others because these verses call for faithfulness and diligence in ministry, never giving up, always sustaining the work God has given us to do. Returning to the theme of materialism, which frankly consumes the thinking of many folks today, the instruction of verses 18-19 parallels the Sermon on the Mount on laying up treasures in heaven, utilizing time, money and resources in a way that is generous and helpful to those in need. This first letter closes with an admonition to guard the Gospel, not allowing worldly or idle thoughts to encroach on the vital message of God in Christ.
