1 Corinthians 13

1 Corinthians 13 … This is an iconic chapter of Scripture. We call it the “Love Chapter.” 1 Corinthians 13 is well known, and it’s a great memory passage (the whole chapter). It deserves to be read again and again. It’s not specifically talking about love in marriage, although it certainly applies there. It’s talking about what the Bible calls “agape” love … love that gives, expecting nothing in return, love of compassion and concern for others (there’s Philippians 2:3 again!), and it applies in the broadest circle of contacts that we can draw around ourselves. It is the love of Christ to be shed abroad by those who love Him, showing His love to a needy world.

Much has been written on this chapter, but nothing as profound and penetrating as a little booklet that’s been published continuously for 150 years, The Greatest Thing in the World, by Henry Drummond. Nothing I could say will illuminate this passage as well as Drummond’s exposition of it.
