1 Corinthians 12:14-31

1 Corinthians 12:14-31 … Our passage today continues the second great theme of 1 Corinthians, which is spirituality. The text begins with one of Paul’s most vivid descriptions.  ,”The stark imagery is to make the point that, just like the human body has lots of parts, they’re all vital to a functioning whole. We may appreciate some body parts more, but it takes all of them working together to achieve the vitality we enjoy from any one part of the body. And so, the point is: every part of the church (which is the body of Christ in this world) is vital … none more important than any other … all gifted by God to make the whole church function as God wills.

So the body (the church) should be caring, one toward another, moving to help any member who might be hurting.

The text ends with the admonition that no gift is more important, that all are necessary in the body. It’s a great text and lesson for us on humility, considering others better than ourselves (Philippians 2:3). This is a great text to explain appreciation of all people to children as well, because any youngster can clearly see the foolishness of, for example, a great big ear walking down the street. Everyone is important and everyone brings value to life.
