Preparing a "Pass-on-able" in Mentoring
As you anticipate meeting with a mentoree, it’s a good idea to have a topic in mind.
It’s all too easy to organize a game plan while dodging
traffic en route to your get-together. Though you may be spontaneous by
nature, mentoring sessions are more effective if you have a
“pass-on-able” prepared ahead of time. For this purpose here’s a simple
“QPEA” format:
You can do the QPEA in any order, but starting with a provocative question and ending with application is usually best.
Adapt the QPEA to the needs of your mentorees. You can go deeper into your topic by adding more verses, character studies, or illustrations. Some topics can be broken into two or three sessions.
Launch into the QPEA after you have exchanged news and other pleasantries, and do it only if your mentoree does not have an urgent issue he or she needs to talk about. You could introduce the QPEA with the comment, “Got a question for you today!”
Use the form to the right to prepare your QPEA. Beats scrambling for Scriptures as you dodge traffic!
