The Navigators
To Know Christ and Make Him Known

Michael and Velma Jacobs

Personal Background

As early as 1998, Velma and I were convinced that God was calling us out from a career as a full-time teacher and counselor and into full-time missionary status with The Navigators' Military ministry.

I was thoroughly convinced by the Spirit of God that if He would use Moses to build a united nation from a race of oppressed and weary slaves, then He would use Velma and me to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to hundreds and even thousands of unreached military men and women to bring about change in their lives.

The change in my life began in 1983 while I was in the Marine Corps. For the first time in my life, I had a purpose for living. It started when a U.S. Marine told me that Jesus loved me, paid the penalty for my sins, and offered me eternal life and new life in Him. I placed my faith in a relationship with Jesus. From that point on, my soul found its fulfillment, and I was hooked. Within weeks, I was involved with The Navigators.

I flourished spiritually with the help of a mentor, who discipled me one-to-one to trust and obey Jesus Christ. This mentor was a U.S. Marine Corps commissioned officer, Major Randy Weyeneth. Randy became my best friend, personal teacher, and today we have the joy and privilege of co-laboring together.

For the next four years (1983-1987), I eagerly taught Naval and U.S. Marine Midshipmen the same principles Randy helped me learn. I invited every midshipman I could find to a Bible study in the NROTC building on the University of California Berkeley campus! Several of these midshipmen also discovered the true purpose for living--life and relationship with Jesus Christ--just like I had.

Ministry Information
God has branded our hearts to serve full-time with The Navigators in the ministry of reaching, discipling, and equipping U.S. Marines and sailors to reproduce teh life of Christ in others, just like Randy did with me.

In February 2004, the Lord confirmed through our churches, friends, and families that we should move to southern California to minister to Marines at MCB Camp Pendleton. Through Bible studies and one-to-one mentoring, we are eagerly investing our lives in U.S. Marines to love them and help them reproduce their lives spiritually in others.
