Marvin and Pam Campbell
Personal background
I (Marvin) met the Navigators initially in 1985 through the military ministry at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and was reintroduced to the Navs in 1992 while attending graduate school in Monterey, CA. God used a great friend, Bob Reehm, as a catalyst for change in my spiritual journey, as he introduced to me the concept of accountability in discipleship relationships.
After 8 years as Navigator Associate staff, God burdened our hearts to pursue a full-time assignment ministering in our U.S. metro communities.
We now have the opportunity to minister among friends from diverse backgrounds by living, loving, and serving others while communicating and extending the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His kingdom into networks of relationships. God has channeled much of our passion and energy toward our youth and young adults figuring out how to integrate their life and faith.
I (Pam) encountered the Navigators for the first time in Monterey, CA in 1992 after using their discipleship materials and hearing about them for years from Marvin. Here is where I was first mentored and discipled by another woman in my relationship with Christ, capturing my heart with a desire to do the same for others as God gave me opportunity.
We are excited to be Navigators because I (Marvin) love being able to come alongside friends as they come to faith, grow in faith, and learn to repeat this process to draw others into God's kingdom. And I (Pam) have enjoyed witnessing friends becoming more others-centered and exhibiting Christ-like attributes in their interactions with others.
For 13 ½ years, Marvin served on active duty in the U.S. Navy, ministering alongside local pastors, chaplains, and area friends in discipleship and evangelism. Pam recently spent time serving as a substance abuse and family life/pregnancy prevention counselor before leaving the workforce to commit her energies full-time to raising our three boys.
Marvin grew up in Baltimore, MD, the middle of three children. He and his siblings were very active in Sunday School, but the family seldom attended church services together. Pam grew up as a middle child in an Air Force family of five that moved around a lot, spending quite a bit of time in military chapels as time permitted.
Most people would be surprised to know that Marvin writes poetry and that Pam does all the yard work (and loves it)!
Ministry information
Our ministry involves leading several Bible study/discussion groups involving people from all ages, stages of life, and levels of faith. Marvin also meets one-on-one with 9 men either weekly or biweekly and works closely with several area pastors and service groups to better serve the youth and 20-somethings of our metro community. Pam's primary focus these days is homeschooling our three boys. She still meets with several young ladies throughout the week, is a part-time fitness instructor, and hosts a variety of weekly activities within our home.
One friend that Marvin meets with regularly has initiated a men's prayer group that gathers biweekly to drive through and pray over the gang and drug hotspots of our metro area. We are partnering together to coach (disciple) these men in character such that their families and workplaces are in turn being influenced.
We absolutely LOVE meeting one-on-one with friends to discover how God is working in and through their lives and celebrating the ongoing spiritual transformation that takes place as they embrace Christ and grow in their faith.
