| In 2001 and 2002, more than 80 leaders
convened to join in a process of capturing and expressing our God-given
calling. Led by General Director Jerry White and his International
Executive Team, these leaders took the foundational lessons of God’s
direction from the past and His promises for the future, and
experienced God leading The Navigators together around a global
calling: to advance the Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom into the
nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling
among the lost.
Also in this quarter of vibrant Navigator ministry . . .
1984—The
Navigators launched Church Discipleship Ministry, partnering with
church leaders to develop generations of disciples in everyday
life—where they live, work, and play.
2000—One
of the most important “retreats” in Navigator history brought together
some 120 Navigator leaders to New York City to examine and address
ethnic diversity. In the following years The Navigators expanded its
ethnic staff, now reaching and discipling Hispanic, African American,
Native American, and Asian communities across the nation.
2002—Launch
of the Metro Mission enabled Navigators to respond to the mission field
at our doorstep beginning with 12 U.S. Metro areas—and growing. In the
Metro Mission is a commitment to living and ministering among the urban
poor.
2005—Mike
Treneer, who came to faith in Christ through the Navigator student
ministry in England and served with The Navigators worldwide since
1971, became the fourth Navigators international president, the first
born and raised outside the United States.
2008—Internationally,
4,628 Navigator staff of 69 nationalities are now ministering in 104
countries using 161 languages. Of the Navigator staff outside the
United States, 37 percent are now ministering in 31 of the 59 countries
within the 10/40 Window.
