Karen met The Navigators, and then Jesus, in Tokyo, Japan after graduating college in Seattle, Washington. Who would have guessed, then, that she would now serve as the national administrator of the International Student Ministry (ISM) of The Navigators, as well as be active in the local ministry focused on Japanese in the Knoxville area?

Here is what one staff says about Karen: “Karen deeply ministers to people as an important member the (ISM) Leadership Team. She leads the ISM National Office, managing the finances and all administrative functions of this 120-member branch of The Navigators’ worldwide ministries.

“Her faithfulness and dependability, as well as her deep heart for God, people, and ministry, make her practically indispensable to the ISM’s accomplishment of its mission. In addition to her administrative contribution, Karen is truly a missionary, ministering directly to people.

“Karen facilitates relational team-building seminars for development of healthy missionary teams, and she ministers directly to international students and alumni in discipleship and evangelism. She has a tremendous personal capacity to serve in this broad scope, also maintaining a deep and growing intimacy with Jesus Christ, watching Him continue to transform and develop her.”

Karen desires to converse about her faith as she meets with the Japanese people God brings into her life.  She’s involved with international students locally and meets monthly with Japanese ladies for fellowship, encouragement, and prayer.

Karen coaches a Japanese woman reaching young Japanese students in the area, and one ISM staff in the area of fund raising. Karen stays connected with and encourages returnees who have gone home to Japan and other nations.
