Japan I will also make you a light for the Gentiles that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth. Isaiah 49:6b
We have served in Japan since 1977. In 1982 we moved to our present location, Sendai, a city of one million people in Northern Japan. We have four children and four grandchildren.
We believe that the human race has been given an incredible gift in Jesus Christ. Our task is to unleash this gift so that it spreads through relational networks within the city of Sendai. We begin with those who are total strangers to the ways of God.
Beginning at ground level in the Bible, we help them, one at a time, to build Biblical truth foundations. In the process, we make ourselves vulnerable, sharing our inner life along with the Word of God. The result is deep, life-long friendships that extend to family, relatives, and friends within the city.
What excites us about our task is that sharing this gift in a cross-cultural setting enlarges it in our own lives. The cost is great, and we constantly feel out of our depth. But the reward is even greater—ever deepening intimacy with the Lord, and with our Japanese friends. We participate with Christ as he builds loving, integrated communities in our midst.
