Letters to Walt
Introducing Walt
Many have asked me, "Is there a real Walt?" Yes, there's a real Walt and this letter introduces him. I hope you enjoy meeting my friend "Walt" and his reflections on art and ministry.
This is my final Letter to Walt. Starting in January 2008, I'm beginning a new series on evangelism and discipleship in the early church. Why this topic? I've become fascinated with the growth of the early church and I've devoted a year to reading and studying on this topic. You will be receiving a monthly "Journal" entry from a fifth century Christian as he reflects back on the life and ministry of the church. I hope you will enjoy this work as much as I will in writing it.
Thank you for being a faithful reader of Walt these past few months. I realize that some of the topics have been a little quirky and out of the mainstream. That's what happens when you think of doing ministry in artful ways. One last comment. People have asked me, "Could you summarize what you mean by artful ministry?" Here's my current working description -- artful ministry is doing ministry with imagination, curiosity, wonder, and pleasure. I hope my monthly letters have encouraged you to move from techniques and methods to an artful way of helping people.
Yours in Christ,
Bill Mowry
Discover artful ministry though Letters to Walt
Letters to Walt explore the unlikely marriage of ministry and art. You're invited into a dialogue with my fictional protégé, Walt. Walt is a young artist who is concerned about the lack of creativity in ministry. We've chosen to correspond through writing to talk about the disciplines of the artist that are applicable to evangelism and disciple making.
I hope you'll enjoy this exchange. I will continue my commitment to making these letters provocative and a little-out-of-the-ordinary. As always, feel free to send them on to friends and enemies. Your comments are always welcomed.
PS: Some of these letters are simply excuses to talk about one of my favorite subjects, rock and roll! Common grace is alive and well.
