The Navigators
To Know Christ and Make Him Known

Scott and Alma Morton

As The Navigators' Vice President of Development at the U.S. Headquarters, I'm responsible to lead The Navigators in fundraising and in training Nav staff to raise the funds they need to carry out their ministry dreams.

I met The Navigators—and the Lord—in my first year at Iowa State University. Both my wife, Alma, and I were discipled through the Nav campus ministry, and we continue to be grateful for The Navigators' ministry among college students. Though I majored in Technical Journalism I really planned on playing professional baseball. But I discovered God's call was not baseball. After graduation (and saying no to the Twins and the Orioles) I worked in business for three years (advertising), and we joined The Navigators staff in college ministry at the University of Iowa in 1970.

After serving in collegiate and business ministries with The Navigators in Iowa City, Madison and Minneapolis, we moved to Colorado Springs in 1985.

In my work as Vice President of Development, I enjoy meeting with our staff teams to plan and discover ways to fully fund The Navigators' ministry.

Most people would be surprised to know that I am a devoted birdwatcher. Someday Alma and I want to drive from Seattle to Maine, watching birds to see how many species we can find and eating at "Mom-and-Pop" restaurants along the way.

Ongoing prayer requests:

  • Wisdom . . . for our Development team of 30 to know what to do out of the many options before us and how best to serve the 108,018 Navigator giving partners.
  •
  • Excellence . . . for the Staff Funding team as they train new staff in fundraising in January, June, and September.
  •
  • Solutions . . . to the huge obstacle of high insurance costs that hurts new staff recruiting. We're working on a combination project that looks promising but needs $3.3 million up-front funding.

Though serving at Navigator Headquarters, we are still responsible to raise 100% of our budget. As of today, we need to add 10 to 12 new partners. Will you consider becoming a financial partner in ministry with Alma and me? To give a gift, you may donate online or call 866-568-7827 or 719-594-2327 (donations only). Thanks for your support!
