Helping business and professional women put their faith (in Christ) to work (in their lives) in order to make a difference (in the world)
April 2, 2007

Did you ever see the 1990 movie called "Six Degrees of Separation?" It was based on the idea that everyone in the world is connected to everyone else in the world by a chain of no more than 6 acquaintances. It even generated a popular game by which people tried to connect actors to Kevin Bacon. As Christians in the marketplace, we have a great opportunity to apply "Six Degrees of Separation" in our own way.

This month we're going to focus on mentoring relationships in the workplace, and how to use your "six degrees" to advance God's kingdom. Please consider joining us on the 16th to "play the game".

  • Get Over Your Bad Self!
    Fractured Face

Glena Gebara came from a very dysfunctional family and struggled, from an early age, with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy. She sought relationships, and eventually even marriage, to feel better about herself. She never went to college, so when she started working in the banking industry, she felt inferior to co-workers, and avoided talking about her education.

This was our introduction to the confident, professional-looking businesswoman who stood at the podium and spoke to us last month at the March Faith@Work luncheon. Like every one of us, Glena has a reality that the world doesn’t always see.

    Monthly Challenge
    working woman with fire

Your challenge this month has to do with remembering and practicing the confidence we have in Christ:

    • Memorize 1 Cor 2:2! Write it out and post it somewhere visible at work
    • Every time you feel insecure, say to yourself, "It's not what I know, it's WHO I know!"
    • Look for opportunities to share WHO you know with others this month.

Let us know what God is doing in your life. Send us a testimony of how God has used this challenge in your life and we'll share it with the Faith@Work community in an upcoming newsletter.

Your Testimonies (What God is Doing in You)

Glena's message hit home with me! I followed her footsteps pretty closely in my life, including not attending college and even working in a bank! My feeling of insignificance compared to college grads and even Christians was strong.

    Food For Thought

"I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food." (Job 23:12)

    ITS NOT ABOUT YOU!

“It’s not about you.” This is the powerful opening of Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life and a concept last month’s speaker, Glena, learned first-hand. Like Glena, I also have my own share of fears and insecurities. “What if I can’t do the work I’ve been asked to do?” “What will people think if?” “What if I fail?” Notice the common factor in each? I am the focus and theme of each one.

    Quick Quotable!

"God doesn't call people who are qualified. He calls people who are willing, and then He qualifies them."

    Richard Parker
