The Word of God Saved My Life!
Faith @ Work Monthly Message: March 17, 2008
Featured Speaker: Mary Dodrill
Her story started like many others’ before her. She was a successful business woman, running an office and calling the shots. She was tough, confident and didn’t think she needed anything else in her life. Then someone in the office asked the unexpected…could they hold a weekly Bible Study in the conference room during the lunch hour? In fact, Maura, the woman who wanted to start the Bible Study, had been challenged at one of the Faith@Work luncheons to step out of her comfort zone and offer to lead a group at work.
Mary gave her permission for the group to meet, but that wasn’t the end of it. Next they invited Mary to join them! According to Mary, “I was the CEO, the owner, the manager of this company, and I wasn’t about to go before this group of women in the office Bible Study and show them I didn’t know anything…I was afraid!” So she said no. But that didn’t deter her co-workers. They always let her know she was invited, and found ways to repeat the invitation here and there. Finally, Mary relented and joined the group.
What Mary discovered in that group was acceptance. These women weren’t Bible scholars with a “know-it-all” attitude. Each week the women shared their own observations of what they were reading. She realized that she didn’t have to know all the answers. As she learned more and more about the love of God, she experienced a transformation in her heart. Mary says that she actually felt God touch her; wrap His arms around her and give her an overwhelming sense of comfort and protection. From that time forward she stopped fearing and let God take over.
Now she eagerly seeks God. She is still in the Bible Study and they’ve been through several studies now. These days Mary falls on her knees every day to pray…and to thank God for saving her life!
