Taking the Next Step of Faith

Are you taking the next step of faith in your life, or are you just taking the same step over and over again?
Sometimes we can find ourselves praying the same prayers, facing the same challenges and learning the same lessons; stuck in a “rut” of stunted spiritual growth year after year. We wonder what it will take to get out of that rut and onto the path God has laid out for us.
Last month I had the opportunity to speak at Faith@Work about steps of faith that please God. We looked at Hebrews 11: the “Hall of Faith”, and talked about the kind of faith we saw there. What we saw is that no matter where we are spiritually, there are steps we can take to move forward. My step may look different from your step, but as long as it moves me forward, it pleases God. Here are four kinds of steps that I believe can lead us forward, out of the rut, into the place where God can use us:
1. First Steps: Believe that He is…Heb 11:6 Acknowledge God and let go of the reins
2. Costly Steps: Be willing to leave something behind; make a sacrifice to follow Him
3. Courageous Steps: Boldly go wherever God calls; even if the ultimate destination is unclear
4. God-sized Steps: “If Prayer isn’t absolutely necessary to accomplish our vision, then our goals aren’t big enough”
For many of us, the next step of faith may be just a walk across the room! Bill Hybels, in his book, “Just Walk Across the Room” challenges Christians to step out of their comfort zones and start living in “3-D”: developing relationships, discovering stories, and discerning the Holy Spirit’s leading in how to share Christ with others. At Faith@Work we’re taking that concept and challenging women to reach out to their co-workers . Several women have already responded and have started workplace Bible Studies with their friends. They’re trusting God to do great things as they step out in faith!
Take the Faith@Work challenge yourself: find a prayer partner in your workplace and begin praying for opportunities to take a step of faith with the people in your life.
