To Know Christ and Make Him Known

Moving On

Faith @ Work Monthly Message: February 11, 2008
Featured Speaker:  Maura Dahrling

"Lord, I don't feel like You're listening to me!"

These words were written in Maura's journal more than once over the weeks and months of seeking Him about a career change.  In fact, Maura eventually discovered that the best way to hear from God was to write down everything she was thinking and feeling while she talked to Him each day.

Maura Dahrling, a real estate broker working in the title escrow business for over 20 years, was our featured speaker at February’s luncheon.  She shared her story of how God led her through the decision-making process of leaving her job.  What started as “an uneasy, unsettled  feeling of wanting something more”, became a daily walk with God through journaling that helped her learn to be still and listen.

Each day, Maura journaled her talks with God:  the Scripture verses she came across, the devotionals she read and the prayers she prayed, all the while asking God, “What path do you want me to take?”  Sometimes she heard from Him clearly, while other times she had to wait patiently for a clear response.  Like the metamorphosis of a butterfly, she felt her thoughts and feelings slowly transforming into a mind and heart fixed on God.  In the end, Maura left the safety net of an established career to wait on God and see what He would bring next.  What eventually came was a role personally crafted for Maura by God Himself.

Maura’s suggestions for seeking God’s will in our own life’s path:

Start a journal. Record your thoughts and fears, your questions for God, and the responses you feel Him making.  Write down any passages of Scripture through which you may feel God speaking to you.

Pray for God to speak to you.  Pray for patience to listen, discernment to hear what He’s saying and faith to surrender to Him.

Be still and know that He is God (and you are not).
