Living As a Godly Woman In a Man's World

Faith @ Work Monthly Message: May 21, 2007
Lori Lambelet

“It is not good for man to be alone.” These words of God in Genesis 2:18 have been affirming, convicting words for Lori Lambelet in recent years, as she has sought to find her unique place in the world. For many years she struggled with feelings of inadequacy, resentment over her gender limitations, and confusion as to what God had created her to be. She battled unsuccessfully for equal recognition and respect in the corporate world.

She began to think that women (and she herself) had a less significant role to play in God’s plan. It wasn’t until she began raising her two daughters, Nicole 24, and Natalie 22 (pictured here at the luncheon with her mom), that she learned the truth of her own value.  As Lori said, “Through my fierce love for them, God was teaching me my value to Him!”

Lori spoke to us last month about finding our identity in who God says we are, not in how the world tries to label us. The world, especially the corporate world, can be judgmental, biased, and unfair. When we try to find our self-worth there, we come away discouraged. When we try to compete like men, we can lose our own identity. We can fall into the trap of underestimating our strengths, and overcompensating for our weaknesses.

Lori offered us encouragement from God’s story of Esther, a woman who knew who she was—a daughter of the King—and where she was—in the center of God’s will—so that He could use her to His glory. She challenged us to find the “Esther Story” in our own lives and then choose to be used just as we are.

Let us know what God is doing in your life. Send us a testimony of how God has used this challenge in your life and we'll share it with the Faith @ Work community. Send in your testimonies to kwarin@comcast.net. - Editor
