“Putting Feet to Our Faith”

 Have you ever felt like God was calling you to do something you really didn't want to do?  How did you respond?  Even a yes answer can be no until we learn to say Yes, Lord!" instead of "Yes, but..."
Susan Taylor was our August speaker and she humorously and honestly shared her story of responding to God’s calling.  Admittedly, it took a little wrestling with God before she agreed to help lead a Bible Study in her office.  At first, when she felt the tug on her heart to get involved, there were lots of excuses as to why she couldn’t do it.  For one, she didn’t feel like her own walk was where it should be and maybe people would think she was a hypocrite once they got to know the real her.  Another excuse:  she was already involved in ministry at her church so why do any more than that?  Finally, somewhat reluctantly, she agreed to get involved.

God patiently and persistently showed Susan that she needed to “put feet to her faith” and trust Him to equip her.  When she finally stopped focusing on her limitations and started looking at the people around her, what began as a sense of obligation became heartfelt desire.  Not only did the Bible Study group flourish, but God began opening doors to further ministry opportunities through the group.  New leaders began to emerge, prayer for the needs of the whole office became commonplace, and a heart for serving others led to generous giving among the members of the group.  

The greatest witness Susan’s group has become to others in her company is through a commitment to integrity and quality in their work.  They carefully monitor the time and resources they use for Bible Study and when on the job, they strive to do their work with excellence.  

Susan has learned that saying yes to God wholeheartedly produces joy beyond expectations and the privilege of being used to accomplish His purposes.  Her challenge to us was to let go of any barriers that keep us from responding to God with a heartfelt “Yes, Lord!”  Ask God not IF He can use us, but HOW, and then follow through.
