December 2009 Getting into the Christmas Spirit
As I look out the window at the mountain ridge that I bike ride, there’s not a cloud in the sky and the temperature is in the low 70’s. It doesn’t always put this former Michigander into a Christmas Spirit. I’m not complaining though, I’ll take the warmth and palm trees anytime. Even as I write this note, I’ll be leaving in a few moments to meet my biking partner for a ride up to the ridge. What puts me into the Christmas Spirit is:
1. The Promises in Scripture of a Savior who was to come: Isaiah 9:6-7 (MSG)
6 For a child has been born—for us! the gift of a son—for us! He'll take over the running of the world. His names will be: Amazing Counselor, Strong God, Eternal Father, Prince of Wholeness. 7 His ruling authority will grow, and there'll be no limits to the wholeness he brings. He'll rule from the historic David throne over that promised kingdom. He'll put that kingdom on a firm footing and keep it going with fair dealing and right living, beginning now and lasting always. The zeal of God-of-the-Angel-Armies will do all this.

2. The Gospel accounts of Jesus’ birth: Luke 1:31-33 (MSG)
31 You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great, be called 'Son of the Highest.' The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David; 33 He will rule Jacob's house forever— no end, ever, to his kingdom."

3. Listening to Christmas Carols: Silent Night, O Holy Night & O Little Town of Bethlehem
4. Sharing Christmas events and Church services with other Christians, a candle light service is the best!
5. Taking a couple of hours to sit down with a cup of coffee to read the Christmas Cards and letters all in one sitting. What an impact!
6. Playing with our grandchildren, enjoying their laughter and listening to their thoughts
