The Second Greatest Gift
It is no secret among Christians that the greatest gift to mankind is the
Savior, Jesus Christ. With Christmas approaching, I’ve been thinking
about the receiving of gifts. From your childhood, do you remember the
anticipation of that special Christmas gift you were hoping for?
Christmas morning came and you saw a present that looked about the
right size. Quickly you unwrapped the gift, and to your relief, it was
exactly what you were expecting! Undoubtedly there have been
Christmases where you didn’t receive the gift you were hoping for.
Maybe there weren’t enough funds, or maybe there was a misunderstanding
about what you wanted. But, whatever the case, you experienced some
disappointment. Christmas morning was flawed.
I believe the second greatest gift God gives us is His direct participation in our lives through prayer. His involvement in our lives is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so there is no way that He misunderstands us. Nor does He lack the resources to meet our needs and desires. Yet it is easy to miss the fact that difficulties can be gifts from our loving God, and it is even easier to take His gifts for granted. Because God knows me intimately, and has the power to give me anything I need at any time, I can receive all of His gifts as perfect.
This year I want to increase my awareness of God’s daily involvement in my life and be more observant as to how He chooses to answer my prayers.
