Kasie and I serve with the Church Discipleship Ministry (CDM) of The Navigators, partnering with churches to help them move from making a few disciples to becoming Intentional Disciplemaking Churches.

We have been involved in full-time vocational ministry for all of our married life. Initially, that included serving at youth camps and as Christian School faculty and administration, but in 1986 God gave us a special burden for the local church. After, graduating from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Master of Theology in 1991, I served as pastor of two churches for a combined total of 10 years. During that time I saw, with increasing clarity, that making disciples was the essence of God's mission for the church.

In the course of our journey through life and ministry, we encountered some Navigators who cared for us, invested their lives in us, and taught us much of what we have learned about discipleship, Christian maturity, and caring for people. After an informal relationship with CDM that lasted for about three years, we were appointed Associate Staff (a non-paid role) in August 2001, while I was pastoring in the Houston area. Then, in the Fall of 2002, we became convinced that God was directing us to serve with CDM full-time. Since then, our certainty of this call has so intensified that we have come to believe that this was the thing God put us on this earth to do!

This role in no way reflects a diminishing of our burden for the local church! Quite the contrary, the conviction that discipleship is the mission of the church, and that God's primary instrument for accomplishing that mission is the local church lie at the heart of this call. It is our desire to serve local churches as partners and coaches, providing resources and encouragement to those in church leadership.
