My Ministry

After losing an election for SGA President, I realized that the God of the universe had been pursuing my heart for well over 3 months.  I had been meeting personally with an EDGE Corps missionary.  While he was teaching me the gospel, I trusted him so much that I shared my fears, insecurities, and hopes of the upcoming election with him.  Our trust relationship led me to Christ in the midst of the election, and during the summer, I went to a Navigators’ training program where I aimed to discover what was really important to me.  Christ being the central theme of my life, my priorities were discipleship, building friendships, and excelling in school.  My fraternity was always on my mind…. How could I serve them?  How could I be a witness?  What are most people trying to accomplish when they join Beta?  The next fall, I joined the Navigators to help me help my Beta brothers in their endeavors to find and trust Christ.  After graduation, I knew that I wanted to continue to learn how to communicate the gospel in love to people in our American culture.  The best way I could learn was through joining the Navigators.

I am looking forward to joining a mission on the front lines of the spiritual battle that will give me an opportunity to take part in the work of my Father.  I am excited about evangelism.  One day I was going to a Friday night party at Beta, and while I parked my car, I was somewhat nervous.  So I prayed for a few minutes that the Holy Spirit would be with me to strengthen and equip me while I was talking to people.  And while I was inside for about 4 hours, I only had a few conversations that weren’t about Christ!  Jesus said in Matthew 9:37-38, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few.”  While I was there, I could see that my friends were confused and helpless, and the need for Christ was very great.  I am excited about discipleship.  My goal will be to personally point to Christ with my life.  “We loved you so much that we shared with you not only the gospel, but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.”  Finally, I am excited to grow and to gain experience in ministering the gospel.

My ministry can be divided into three parts.  First, I will minister to students at University of North Texas.  I will be responsible for creating spiritual conversations and organizing Bible discussions on campus.  I would love to take interested students aside, one-on-one, and help them grow in their walk with Christ.  Many people go throughout their entire life without someone who really knows and understands them.  Second, I will minister to my EDGE Corps teammates, Thomas Clark, Nichole Porrata, and Trese Overacker.  I will seek to lead and create unity under our campus director, Steve Shank, by initiating prayer, fellowship, and valuing God’s Word.  Finally, I will minister to my support team.  Since they are partnering with me in this venture to make UNT students passionately fall in love with Jesus, I want them to be astounded by good news and blown away by God’s faithfulness.  I want them to have a bigger view of God and a higher level of trust for Him, as I also want for myself.  With my support team, I will be continually reassuring them that God is working through them and that their prayers are being answered directly.

I will have many opportunities to trust God in the next couple of years.  Through this ministry, God will be growing in me a greater trust for His promises and for His character.  It will be more apparent to me that Jesus is my Rock.  When I get bad news, I will not fear.  When I get good news, I won’t be overly excited.  I will be grounded to Christ like a rock, because to know Christ is my life’s aim, and no one can take Him away from me.  I am looking forward to building lifelong friendships and seeing God transform men to partner with me in the gospel until Christ’s return.  I look forward to having a greater understanding of the gospel and to having my values system being changed into conformity with Christ.  Jesus Christ died for us so that we through faith could be hidden in His death and be revealed with Him in glory.  With thanksgiving, I believe Jesus is worthy of infinite honor.  My vision for life is to love God with all my heart, mind, and strength while inviting others with me in my worship of Him.  Surely He loved me first!
