Vanderbilt University - Nashville, Tennessee
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. Acts 20:24
God became real to me when my dad and I met Him for breakfast in 7th grade. My dad would take me out before school on a weekly basis and teach me everything he knew about how to walk closely with God and impact others. We did this for 6 years before I headed off to college at Vanderbilt University. It was during this time that I sensed God calling me to full-time ministry.
When I got to Vanderbilt, I looked for someone local who would coach me spiritually. I was introduced to a Navigator who met with me weekly and taught me how to go deeper in my journey with the Lord. I began to reach out to other students in college and saw God use my life. As graduation approached, I knew that God wanted me to invest my life in college students and pass on to them what had been passed on to me. God blessed me with a wife who had the same heart.
Linnette and I want our lives to count. We see God moving on the college campuses of America in a powerful way. College students are asking questions about God. They need a safe place to ask those questions. Other students are seeking to grow in their personal relationship with Jesus. They are facing the challenges of going against the current on campus. They need someone to help guide and train and encourage them.
We have the privilege of developing friendships with college students who want their lives to count just as Paul expresses in Acts 20:24 (above). They want someone to help them figure out how to finish the race well. The greatest joy is when these students step up as leaders and begin pouring their lives into others—the ripple effect is endless and the world is being changed.
