In His Service

The military isn't just a profession. It's a way of life--sometimes an all-consuming way of life. So how does a Christian, whose is called to live whole-heartedly for God, mesh life in Christ with life in the military? Is it possible to live a consistent, obedient, godly life while complying with the military's many requirements?

The answer is yes, and In His Service serves as a guide. Rick Bereit draws from his 30 years of military experience to provide a detailed overview of life in the military, life as a Christian, and, most important, how the two fit together. Designed as a lifelong handbook--from the first day of basic training through an entire enlistment or career--In His Service is a comprehensive resource to equip you for service to your country and to God.

In His Service addresses the questions on every military Christian's mind:
  • Does military service conflict with biblical values?
  • How do you reconcile "Thou shalt not kill" with wartime casualties?
  • How will the nomadic military life affect your family?
  • How will you grow in your relationship with God when the military consumes so much of your time?
About the author:The son of a WWII flight instructor, Rick Bereit began his own military career in 1966 when he entered the United States Air Force Academy. There, he became involved with The Navigators and was discipled by Jerry White, now the president of The Navigators. After his graduation and commissioning in 1970, Rick moved to Chanute AFB in Illinois to train in aircraft maintenance, which would become his profession for the next 30 years. During that time, Rick was assigned to bases in Arizona, Alabama, Texas, Hawaii, Guam, Turkey, England, and Germany. In 1990, he was named best senior maintenance officer in the Air Force. Throughout his time in the military, Rick and his wife, Barbara, discipled other believers one-on-one, in groups, and through Sunday school classes. Retired from the military in 2000, Rick now serves on staff with The Navigators' Military Ministry.

Rick and Barbara, married since 1973, have four children and now live in Flagstaff, Arizona.
