Walking With Jesus

I have walked with Christ for more than 20 years, and what a walk it has been! Walking with Jesus is a privilege, but it is not always easy. Here are some things I’ve learned along the way.

1.    Walk with Jesus with a friend: Most of us walk with our husbands as partners in ministry, but as women we need something extra. Another woman! Make sure that she is trustworthy and loves the Lord above all. Don’t be a lone ranger!

2.    Walk with Jesus because you are personally touched by Jesus’ ministry. Not out of duty, but out of love and thanksgiving. You can never pay Him for what He did for you.

3.    Walk with Him by forgiving yourself. Some of us, saved by Jesus’ sacrifice, walk in the past instead of in the present with Jesus. God already forgave your sins and gave you eternal life. So stop playing the video of past sins in your mind and forgive yourself! God has already forgotten your sins . . . so should you!

4.    Walk with a serving heart. It is so easy to walk with Christ when we walk to serve Him. He served us first! Can you imagine what would have happened to the twelve tribes of Israel if Rebekah had said, “I don’t do camels”?

5.    Walk devoted to Him one day at a time, and don’t lose your focus. Devotion means to be set apart for a specific purpose or use . . . to be loyal. Are you determined to be devoted to Him so that He can use you? I have seen examples of women in our Nav ministry that have experienced terrible loss in their lives, prodigal children, and financial oppression. Yet they remain devoted to Him and are an encouragement to others.

6.    Walk determined to pay the cost. As Christians, accepting the challenges is just the beginning. Dying to self is the second step! Don’t look back! Count the current blessings. God cannot use pillars of salt! Is your vision like Jesus’. . .  to win the world for the Father? He paid with His life.

7.    Walk by giving Him your best. Dorcas sewed, Mary gave her Son, Mary of Bethany gave Him her perfume, and Martha cooked. What can you give?

8.    Walk as an obedient witness of Jesus. Witnessing affirms God’s presence in your life, and the results are His. The woman at the well had more to lose than you and me, and yet she witnessed. And how!

9.    Walk in prayer! This is the most important thing you can do. Prayer sustains the well-being of your soul. Make prayer your spiritual breakfast.

10.    “Walk the talk.” I am a Christian. So what?! Those Christians and non-Christians around you are watching you to imitate you. You are “IT” to many who are lost. I want to encourage you to take off your shoes and put on the sandals of the Savior: get your feet dirty!
