"Designer Christian"
by Joan VanNoord
As
I always do each day, I was working the crossword puzzle in the daily
newspaper. I came upon this clue for twenty-five down, "Designer
Christian."¯ I started my wheels turning and shifted my thinking into
high gear wondering what on earth a "Designer Christian"¯ was. After
some thought, I felt foolish and realized that what the puzzle was
looking for was a designer with the first name Christian. The answer of
course was Christian Dior. After a good laugh at how I had first perceived the clue, I began to ponder the thought that perhaps the term "designer Christian" is something that could exist. In our world we have designer clothes, designer watches, designer handbags, designer shoes, designer perfume, and more. Why couldn't there be a "designer Christian"? Thoughts quickly came to mind as to the qualities a "designer Christian"¯ possesses.
THEY HAVE THE BEST DESIGNER.
They have been created by the Almighty Creator of the universe and have the top label attached to them. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:10)."
THEY HAVE THE HIGHEST PRICE.
They have been purchased by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. He gave His life for them. . "You have been bought with a price (Corinthians 6:20)."
THEY ARE WELL MADE.
Psalm 139:14 tells us, "I will give thanks to Thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
THEY ARE LONG-LASTING.
They will last for eternity. "He who believes in Me shall live even if he dies (John 11:25)."
THEY ARE A THING OF BEAUTY.
We read in Colossians 3 about the qualities which they wear; a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love—attractiveness to be sure.
THEY ARE DESIRED BY ROYALTY.
Proverbs 22:11 says, "He who loves purity of heart and whose speech is gracious, the king is his friend."
Yes, I have concluded that there is such a thing as a "designer Christian"—one who has the master Designer, is of the highest quality and value, is long lasting, and most desirable.
May we all be found living as "designer Christians." It's not such a laughable term after all!
