To Know Christ and Make Him Known

Discovery Forum

"Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don't be impressed with yourself. Don't compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life" (Galatians 6:4-5, The Message).

Discovery Forum will help you answer the question: How has God designed me?
God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well, but none of us the ability to do all things well, giving each of us a sphere of ministry as unique as we are from our own peers.

Paul talks about his “sphere of ministry” in II Corinthians 10:13-16. This word appears a number of times in the New Testament as “measure,” “proper limit,” “rule,” “standard,” “field of service.” The idea is one of God-appointed boundaries, a range of action or duty having to do with ministry.

One’s field of service is composed of many aspects of one’s self, including Spiritual Gifts, Individual Preferences, Personal Values, Circle of Influence and Life Mission. Our Discovery Forum examines each of these areas to help you better pinpoint your own sphere of ministry in which to work, your own best fit in life.

Spiritual Gifts
"Focusing on spiritual gifts -- what they are, who has them, how to discover one's giftedness, and how to use spiritual gifts appropriately -- could ignite a movement of service and influence unlike anything we have experienced during our lifetime" (George Barna). Individual Preferences
Individual preferences are like right- and left-handedness. While you use both hands, you most likely have a preference for the right or left. Determining these individual preferences give insight into your leadership style, work style, and communication style. Personal Values
Most people acknowledge similar foundational values such as faith, God, family, and children, as well as similar basic needs such as acceptance, significance, and belonging. Every person values some things more than others and this contributes to their individuality. These personal values drive behavior and contribute to individual satisfaction and fulfillment. Circle of Influence
A circle of influence represents the circle of relationships in which you invest a significant portion of your time and energy. This circle represents a sphere of influence unique to your life situation. Your primary circle of influence is the people and places for which you are burdened and motivated to influence for the purposes of God. Life Mission
To what has God called you? Stewardship demands that you answer this question and live within the limits of your answer. Believers have an inner directedness which compel and propel them. Foremost, you are called to Christ; you are called to love and follow Him. This gives meaning and purpose to whatever your work may be.
