Strength in Him

Hopefully, she will continue to find her strength in Him.

We did a ten-day youth camp for kids between 15 and 25 years old. For the duration of the camp, we led conferences, devotions, and small groups. During one of the small groups, we talked about faith. A girl in our group said she lost her faith because God was not answering her prayers.

We dismissed the rest of the group because our next activity was beginning, but I was able to stay behind with one other American and a translator and talk with her more. She said that she was 17 and had been trying to get into high school to no avail. Her professor persisted in extorting her for money and asking for sex in exchange for grades. Being an obedient follower of God, she refused him, and in result, could not advance into high school. She could not understand why God would not break down this barrier.

We sat with her and offered her encouragement through Scripture, and suggested that she continue to meet with someone to disciple her once we were gone. Over the course of the camp, this once shy, uninterested, and "faithless" young woman began asking questions, singing praises to God, and became committed to reading her Bible daily. I don't know if she will ever be able to advance in school, but I do know that God impacted her that week. Hopefully, she will continue to find her strength in Him.
