In Uganda, a mature Mission: Moving Mountains project in Mbale District
offers a picture of what we desire to happen every place we work.
Sustainable change is readily apparent in things like wells that
provide clean
drinking water, vibrant new churches, and improved agricultural
techniques. It is also apparent in the new skills leaders have
developed, such as solving problems together, using the community’s own
available resources, and trusting God as He continues to move their
hearts toward Him. Consider the impact of some of what has happened in
Uganda:
A vibrant, self-sustaining indigenous ministry
with its own board of directors has successfully completed community
transformation projects in more than 60 communities, with new work
started in 30 more.
In one project cluster of eight
villages in Muyembe, there are more than 300 disciples. Many are third
and fourth generation spiritual descendents of the original project
team.
New churches have sprouted up as a result of whole-life discipleship that has taken root in the lives of people.
Transformed
project communities have attracted the attention of the Ugandan
government, resulting in grants to begin income-generating activities
like tree nurseries and to help with AIDS support.
Women
like Florence Wareka are economically empowered and able to feed and
educate their children and build permanent houses. They attribute these
new capacities to the skills and training that God provided them
through M:MM.
The whole-life transformation
that has taken place throughout Mbale District in Uganda can also
happen in other poverty stricken countries. It is worth the long-term
