Cambodia Cambodia is a place rich in significant
history. Once an influential civilization in Southeast Asia, it
has suffered some of the most "nightmarish" events of the 20th
century. Following the Pol Pot regime in the early 1990's, there
was significant chaos throughout the land that required intervention by
United Nations Security forces and Non-Governmental organizations
(NGO's). As the Khmer Rouge finally succumbed to a provisional
government, there was significant need to renew a countryside destroyed
by war and mined by rebels. People whose world had been turned
upside down, some maimed and without clean water and food needed to
start living again. One of the groups the stepped in to bring
relief and promote development is the group known as Food for the
Hungry (FH). With this in mind, Mission: Moving Mountains has
formed a partnership to work with those who are ready to take
responsibility for their communities and their lives once again in a
new district. M:MM, in partnership with FH Cambodia, will work in
one of the last Khmer Rouge strongholds to empower experienced
Christian leaders in transforming communities by Discipling for
Development.
In November of 2007, the first training of Cambodian leaders began with
a Foundations in Discipling for Development Workshop. Using
non-formal educational methodology throughout the workshop, groundwork
was laid to facilitate God's vision for a community. The next
steps will come in April of 2008 when the M:MM mentoring team returns
for further training and coaching.
