Strike Force
Reaching this Generation for Christ
Adventure, identity, purpose, meaning, and fun . . . all these describe Strike Force--a short-term missionary experience with The Navigators Military Ministry. Strikers usually serve one to two years at the same location. Friendship and intimacy is what Strike Force is all about. So whenever possible, we love to team up Strikers to minister together.
Navigator staff with years of experience act as spiritual parents and mentors. They help Strikers to build a foundation of biblical convictions and learn how to be spiritual warriors. Strikers then use these foundational concepts to passionately reach out to military personnel, to make a difference in the lives of those they touch, and to be Christ's light and love.
The
method for laying this biblical foundation varies, but there are some
constants. Each Striker completes the Topical Memory System, reads
selected books, and works through specific Bible study assignments
designed to help them in their discipline to study the Scriptures and
communicate with God. Like the training methods, Strike Force
activities also vary from place to place. At most Strike Force
locations, evangelism activities begin with visiting folks in the
barracks and hanging out. Strikers are trained to communicate the
Gospel by asking questions and engaging in a dialogue, not by always
making statements. The focus is on not talking "to" people about Jesus,
but talking "with" them about Jesus.
Social activities are a great way to fellowship with believers and to bring in non-Christians. Rock climbing, surfing, and kayaking are big at Camp Lejeune. At Offutt, volleyball, game nights, and movie nights are some ways to connect and have fun. Picnics and cookouts are great, of course-chow always brings people out!
