Our History
In the late 1920s, a California truck driver named Dawson Trotman developed spiritual disciplines in his own life daily time in God s Word, Scripture memory, regular prayer times, and telling others about Jesus. As he grew in his own relationship with Christ, he found others eager to learn from him. In 1933, Trotman founded The Navigators, with a vision to "Know Christ and to make Him Known."What began as a ministry to California sailors has grown to a worldwide discipling effort. All over the world, Navigators help others apply scriptural truths to their lives, pass on what they re learning, and help these believers reach others.
The Navigators Military Ministry is helping reach the nations of the world through the military. The post-Cold War era has brought countless new opportunities to reach military people who once were our enemies.
Amidst the world s changing political structure, the Military Ministry retains its commitment to reach, teach, and send. Throughout the decades, we have found that the Navigator commitment to one-on-one discipleship has been the most effective approach to establishing deeply rooted followers of Christ.
Our Military Ministry is supported through voluntary, tax-deductible contributions to individual staff and to our general ministry fund. To find out more, or to become part of this effort, please:
