About the conference: In her own words

Glen Eyrie: Hi Shannon! We're looking forward to your upcoming couples' conference on marriage. How would you describe to someone what this conference will focus on?

Shannon Ethridge: We all want to experience joy, passion, and intimacy in marriage, but we often poke holes in our own bucket of marital bliss without realizing it!  This conference will give both husbands and wives a much clearer understanding of each other’s deepest needs so that couples can experience the deeper levels of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual intimacy that they crave.

GE: Would you say your message is more for couples who have been married "forever" or for newlyweds?

SE: [It's for] married couples of all ages and all stages – from those who are willing to make this one last stop on the way to the divorce court, to those who have a great relationship and simply want to take it over the top!

GE: Why are you so passionate about this subject?

SE: Seven years into our marriage, I almost left my husband (and children) because I didn’t feel as if he was meeting my “emotional needs” or giving me the “love” I felt entitled to.  I wasn’t inspired to meet his sexual needs, he wasn’t inspired to meet my emotional needs, and neither of us were successful in “requiring” it of each other.  However, a decade later, we’re inspiring each other like crazy -- striving for levels of intimacy in our relationship that neither of us ever dreamed possible.  We want to share these insights with other couples so that they can experience overwhelming joy and passion in marriage, too!

GE: Sounds like you have a very personal message of hope for other married couples. What are two things you want couples to take away from  your conference?

SE:  We often think that 95% of our marital problems are our spouse’s fault.  But by focusing the 5% that we have control over, I believe anyone can warm up a cold heart, ignite the flame of joy and passion once again, and even throw fuel on the flame you carry for one another!  I want women to develop an appreciation for (and eagerness to fulfill) her husband’s sexual needs.  I want men to develop an appreciation for (and eagerness to fulfill) his wife’s emotional needs. And I want couples to see marriage as a wonderfully unique opportunity to minister to their spouse’s needs in a way that no one else on the planet can!

GE: Speaking of "wonderfully unique," what's one thing in your day-to-day life that is normal for you but is probably pretty unusual for most people? I bet you husband has some insight into this!

SE: Whenever I go to bed at night, I lay on my stomach and rub my feet together to relax and unwind.  My husband calls it my nighttime “cricket” dance.

GE: I'd say that definitely falls into the "wonderfully unique" category! Thanks for your time, Shannon!

SPEAKER

The author of Every Woman’s Battle and Every Young Woman’s Battle, Shannon Ethridge is a writer, speaker, lay counselor, and advocate for sexual integrity with a master’s degree in counseling/human relations from Liberty University. Her first career move, however, was as a mortician. It was at the embalming table, working on many young adults who had died from AIDS or committed suicide upon learning they were HIV positive, where she came face to face with her own promiscuous teenage years. Shannon realized that it was by God’s grace that she was alive, and as a result, decided to pursue ministry full-time. The most recent of her 12 books is Every Woman’s Marriage, co-written with her husband, Greg. Shannon and her family live in East Texas.
