Instructor: Ann Johnston
Class: Dyed to Clamp
Length: 4 days
Size: 10 students max
This class will expand the possibilities of low-water immersion dyeing as described in Ann's book Color By Accident.
Basic information and exercises will be given, then students will be
introduced to designing by mechanically resisting the penetration of
the dye into parts of the fabric. Endless variables of repeat patterns
are possible using folds, stitching, and clamps. The process will give
students the opportunity to observe the individual characteristics of
the various single-chemical colors available in Procion MX colors and
they will learn how those characteristics impact the final results. As
we fold, wrinkle and clamp, dye and over dye, we will be producing
wonderful one-of-a-kind fabrics and learning how to make many more.
Instructor: Heidi Lund
Class: A Gathering of Leaves
Length: 4 days
Size: 10 students maximum
Does nature inspire you? Come join us in a fabulous
relaxed setting among the mountains and trees to learn techniques for
creating a dimensional piece of leaf art. Spend time
creating an inspired quilt art background with lumiere paints, stencils
and stamps, then move on to creating the leaf components from all
different types of fabrics, threads and fibers. We will finish up
by putting it all together with embellishment techniques using beads,
buttons, ribbon, silk carrier rods, twigs and more. Students will
use their home sewing machine and free motion foot with various
stabilizers for success.
Instructor: Cindy Needham
Class: Creative Machine Quilting
Length: 4 days
Size: 10 students max
Break out of the box! This class is designed for those quilters
desiring a creative foundation in their machine quilting skills.
Your week will begin with instruction on different basting techniques
and free motion quilting designs. You will be treated to an Open
Thread Bar where you will learn to successfully use decorative threads
in your machine and learn to do thread painting . A design workshop
will teach you how to make good choices in your quilting designs to
make those quilts come alive! Cindy's stencils are available for your
use in designing and marking your unquilted tops or creating a whole
cloth quilt. Your week will end creating a vintage linen
wholecloth quilt and will finally solve the dilemma of what to do with
Grandma’s old linens that have been tucked away for so many years!

HEADLINE ARTISTS
Ann Johnston
First, Ann learned to sew, then she learned to dye fabric. In between,
she earned degrees in Literature and Geography, married, had two sons,
and taught school in several countries. By now, Ann has been making
quilts and putting dye on fabric for over 25 years. Her years of
experimentation have led to mountains of hand dyed fabric and quilts,
thousands of miles of travel, numerous exhibitions and articles, four
books, and not a few aches and pains. Learn more about Ann at www.annjohnston.net
Heidi Lund
Heidi is an artist who has a passion for fabric, fiber and
surface embellishments. Heidi works with cottons, silks and water
soluble stabilizers. She enjoys fabric dying, painting and
airbrushing and loves to apply yards of threads by free motion on her
sewing machine. Her unique works are well “garnished” with
unbelievable embellishments from fibers, to ribbons, beads, buttons,
ultra suede and even shells. Heidi teaches quilting, surface
design, collage, dyeing, embellishment and beading. She lives in
the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her two chocolate spaniels.
Her fiber art has been exhibited both national and internationally and
her work can be found at International Quilt Festival, in Bernina
Fashion Shows and through Association of Pacific NW Quilters. She
is published in Creative Quilting, the Journal Quilt Project, Quilting Arts Magazines and Calendars, as well as through American Quilting Society.
Cindy Needham
Cindy has been a quilter for over 35 years with the first 25
devoted to her first love of hand quilting and the last 10 with her
second love of machine quilting. She first fell in love with quilts
while her family was stationed in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North
Carolina and Virginia.
Passing on her love of quilting and design through teaching is Cindy's
dream come true. She recently left her full time job in the medical
field to teach and speak nationally for Superior Threads. Her love of
design has led to unique opportunities to design stencils for Quilting
Creations, Inc. and whole-cloth designs for Golden Threads. She has
also had several design features in Quilters Newsletter Magazine. Cindy's book, Wholecloth Linen Quilts,
was released this year by AQS and features a wide variety of linen
quilts as well as a large selection of her quilting designs.
