Coming Up for Air - Margaret BeckerROOMS SOLD OUT - COMMUTERS ONLY! ![]() February 1-3, 2008View basic itinerary (subject to change) About the conference: In her own wordsGlen Eyrie: Hi Margaret! Thanks for spending some time speaking about your upcoming conference. How would you describe to someone what this weekend will focus on? Margaret Becker: Western culture defines “success” for us—very much apart from God’s unique purpose and design for each individual. An individual’s skills and creativity is often at odds with how the world defines him or her. This "anti-conference" addresses the question: if we are each created to be individuals, then success must be defined individually. “Success” can only be revealed to us by considering God’s intent in creating us. By following the steps that helped me in identifying my own giftings and talents, participants are invited into a simple process of definition, simplification and productive change. GE: Who do you consider your main audience for this "anti-conference?" MB: This is a gathering for women from young adulthood through late middle age who are feeling disconnected from life but helpless to make changes. It is for women who want a deeper relationship with God but are tired of the Christian self-help books and devotionals out there that don’t seem to understand the depth of their needs or longings—or their need for a little humor mixed with life-lessons. It is a start to real-life change GE: Why are you passionate about this subject? MB: I lived it. I think it is timely in our culture as well. GE: What are 2 things you want attendees to take away from this event? MB: A clear sense of personal mission statement, as communicated by God to each of us individually. And a clear template created from that mission statement, which allows the participant to make sound yes/no decisions without guilt, and with conviction; thereby simplifying time demands and stressors. GE: Thanks for sharing with us, Margaret! We look forward to your time here! SESSION TOPICS, AKA "BREATHING LESSONS" (subject to change): 1) Breathe Deep: Mix, mingle, and write a story together. This session is meant to bring us together, help the unwinding process and prep for the next two days. 2) Airing Out: Hear the waves; picture yourself with nothing to do, hear the story of how one woman takes back her life. Enter into relaxation and begin clarification. This is a hands-on fun session, which begins the clarification process. In this session, we color, we listen, we write out secrets, we name our “Giants,” all privately, and all in a series of interactive exercises. 3) Dreaming Wide: Through hand-on exercises, identify your personal success. Unique, individual, ordained and important, find that definition, or spruce it up. Begin here to identify stressors and plan for change. 4) All request concert: An acoustic concert built on the requests of attendees. Peppered with stories that weave into the weekend’s message, hear a concert, which is designed by you, comprised of your favorite songs. 5) Breathing Fresh: A self-directed communion worship service. This is where the weekend becomes true change. This is a chance to leave unwanted things behind, embrace new ideals and connect with the power of Christ. Online and phone registration are currently available for this conference. SPEAKER Margaret Becker
