Tom and Delphina Johnson
Leading the Navigator American Indian Discipleship Ministry
Tom and
Delphina Johnson, with their two children, live and minister in the heart
of the Navajo Nation in Many Farms, Arizona.
Delphina Johnson, a teacher by trade, became associate staff with the Navigators in 1999, before becoming full-time staff in 2004. She desired to be a part of helping Native people experience the life-changing process of discipling and mentoring. She was raised on the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona. She is of the Big Water Clan, and born of the Edge Water Clan. Except for the six years in which she was persuing her education, Delphina has lived the majority of her life on the reservation.
Tom is a teacher for the Bureau of Indian Education at Many Farms High School where he has taught since 1992. He is the worship leader at their local church.
The Johnsons are involved in ministering to the people in their community, ninety-five percent of them being Navajo. They are actively involved with church leadership, Bible studies, and one-on-one relationships. Delphina’s passion is women’s ministry—seeing women grow in their understanding and love for the Creator.
Tom and Delphina desire to get down to the basics. To live and disciple among the poor and the broken. To love God and to love His people. To help raise up oaks of righteousness in many native nations, families, and communities.
To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. Isaiah 61:3
