Selwyn and Janice Vickers

The Vickers moved from Baltimore, Maryland in 1994 after 16 years of training and working at Johns Hopkins. Their arrival in Birmingham, Alabama was a return home for both of them, having grown up in Huntsville, Alabama, just north of Birmingham. They returned with much trepidation and a lot of thought and prayer about leaving the security of friends, ministry, and family in the Baltimore-Washington area.

As in all moves of faith, God has been faithful and continues to bless them at their current residence. Currently, Janice is managing a household of three busy daughters and one son, while working with Selwyn and other couples in Bible study.

Selwyn is a board-certified general surgeon, researcher, and tenured assistant professor of surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He has had several opportunities to speak with groups and share his faith one-on-one with medical students, particularly those of African-American descent. Selwyn has worked in discipling relationships with a number of young men, both in the medical school and in the undergraduate school. Selwyn continues to be recognized by his peers in the medical community.

PLEASE PRAY: For time—for work and for prayer. For opportunities to minister and to share their faith at both their local church and at The Center for Urban Missions. For the people whom they are discipling (Marcus and Charlotte, Antonio, and Chris).
